GB Skeleton Athlete

Mid point in Whistler

There’s not much to report on at the moment!

We’ve completed 1 week of sliding in Whistler, with 1 week to go.  The corners are a bit more rounded on the entrances and exits compared to the World Cup race here last year.  This makes it a bit more forgiving if you’re slightly off the race line.  I’ve been doing half the runs as I’m sharing the alotted runs with another athlete.  It gives me the chance to watch on my days off and stay fresh for when I’m sliding.  2 more days of sliding left for me – Thursday and Friday.

Halloween in Whistler was amazing!  They really go for it over here, dressing up in funny costumes.  I really felt like the odd one out wearing normal clothes in town!

Today we did a few headshots for the TV introduction on race days.   I must say I was looking exceptionally amazing today as I spent 3 hours doing my hair 😀

  1. 3 hours doing your hair? Did you get some intricate drawing shaved into the side of your head? The whole GB Skeleton bob team in profile?

  2. I had to make sure each hair was in the right place! Just kidding, I went for the rough and ready approach!

No bears lately to give me some help pushing. It’s probably a good thing as I’m sure their claws are sharp! Reminds me of the time I went out to the start line and realised I’d forgotten my gloves – I had to borrow a pair from a guy who did luge. The trouble is, they have sharp spikes on the fingertips of their gloves so it was a bit of a painful ride down the track!

  3. Hi Andy

Congratulations on the wonderful start to your season! Hoping to be able to see you on the tv for the olympics. Those bears up there have heard about tasty british rumps, seems it is a delicacy! Watch out!

    love Denise and Jim xx

    • Hi Denise and Jim!

Great to hear from you, I hope you’re both well. I managed to avoid any bear confrontations, although there’s a few moose on the loose here in Park City now! We have our first World Cup race of the season on Thursday at 9am Mountain time, 11am Eastern. It’s sometimes on TV over here although I’m not sure what channel. Are you visiting the UK any time soon?
